Session Description

Despite advancement in development India still faces challenges in achieving inclusive growth. Youth represent 27% of India’s population. Inspired by the narrative of high levels of economic growth, today’s youth have high aspirations. Yet youth unemployment stands at 17.8%, three times the adult rate. To efficiently utilize India’s demographic dividend, it is important to provide youth with work skills as well as generate jobs that meet their aspirations.

In this session the speakers will discuss the challenges they face on the ground in addressing the youth unemployment challenge and the different approaches they are using to provide meaningful employment to this segment.

Key Takeaways:

  • How to empower small scale farmers with farm and non-farm livelihoods?
  • What works when it comes to sustainable livelihoods for rural women?
  • What are the challenges and opportunities in meeting employer demands and meeting them through skilling the underprivileged rural and urban youth?
